History of these coins:
During the later period of the Roman empire Christianity began to replace paganism. This change was reflected in their coinage.
Gone were the images of emperors replaced instead with images of Jesus Christ and religious inscriptions called "Christo grams".
These coins represent
significant change in the
world's religious direction and have become highly collectible.
The coin offered is classed as a "I" and has the following characteristics:
Attributed to the reign of Nicephoros III (1078-1081).
Obv. Similar to class H with Christ wearing a himation (light cloak or toga); single pellet in each limb of cross, and in field IC-XC.
Rv. Latin Cross with X at center of limbs. Globule and two pellets at each extremity; floral ornament in lower field on either side and crescent in upper field on either side.
Anonymous Folles minted under the reign of various emperors include:
John I, 969 - 976 AD.
Basil II and Constantine VIII, circa 989 AD.
Romanus III, 1028 - 1034 AD.

Constantine IX, 1042 - 1055 AD.
Constantine X, 1059 - 1067 AD.
