    History of these coins:
During the later period of the Roman empire Christianity began to replace paganism.  This change was reflected in their coinage.
Gone were the images of emperors replaced instead with images of Jesus Christ and religious inscriptions called "Christo grams".
The reverse side of the coin offered here carries an image of a
    Patriarchal cross
    .
These coins represent significant change in the
world's religious direction and have become highly collectible.
The coin offered is classed as a "H" and has the following characteristics:
    Attributed to Michael VII (1071-1078).
Obv. Bust of Christ as in 1867, but raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels with left hand; in field IC-XC; and normal border.
Rv. Patriarchal cross with globule and two pellets at each extremity.  In lower field, on either side are floral ornaments.
Anonymous Folles minted under the reign of various emperors include:
    John I, 969 - 976 AD.
Basil II and Constantine VIII, circa 989 AD.
    Romanus III, 1028 - 1034 AD.
    Michael IV, 1034 - 1041 AD.
    Constantine IX, 1042 - 1055 AD.
    Constantine X, 1059 - 1067 AD.
    Romanus IV, 1068 - 1071 AD.
    Nicephorus III, 1078 - 1081 AD.
