    Byzantine lead seal of Markos or Makarios officer
    (7th cent.).
    Obverse:
    Facial bust of the Mother of God nimbate, wearing maphorion and chiton, holding Jesus Christ as child
    in a medallion before her chest, a cross in either side of the field.
    Reverse:
    Cruciform monogram, reading as MAΡΚΟΥ or ΜΑΚΑΡΙΟΥ (of Markos or Makarios).
    19 mm; 5.86 gr.
    Condition: Fine, exactly as in photos.
    A nice piece, with historical importance, acquired in a European auction.
