    Description

    Semissis of Justinian I
    527 - 565 AD.  Seaby Byzantine 144, 18 mm, 2.1 grams.  Obverse is Pearl diademed head of Justinian, right.
    Reverse is Victory seated inscribing numerals upon shield on knee
    star, chi-rho to right, Constantinople mint.
    This coin has a Numista Rarity index of 97.  The rarity Index
    is from 1 to 100 with 1 being very common and 100 being rare among Numista members.  This is a hard coin to find.  I hate to part with it, but I've been in coins over 50 years and it's time to sell some things.
