    Description

1917 Original American's Food Pledge- 20 Million Tons
30" x 20" Artist: unsigned. Printed by the United States Food Administration. A simple and direct poster from the U.S. Food Administration that advertises to the American people that the goal for saving food was 20 million tons. The government had promised 20 million tons of food as aid for the European victims of the war. This was a hefty amount and one which took every single American's cooperation to achieve. Herbert Hoover, head of the U.S. Food Administration, suggested, not mandated, various ways for Americans to save food. Some examples of his ideas are; "Meatless Mondays" and "Wheatless Wednesdays." In addition, Americans were encouraged to plant gardens and grow their own food. These eventually became known as victory gardens. Selling as is, will send in tube and will have archival removable tape to hold fragile paper on reverse side. Great candidate for restoration.
